2010/04/21 Day Two

Day Two was remarkable and likely memorable throughout our journey. There was so much to see and to share that it will be broken into two messages.

Started off by leaving Liberal Kansas in the morning after looking for and finding "Dorothy's House" - a so called museum about the Wizard of Oz....... NOT! Just a bad sign, worse mural and scary bronze sculpture of Dorothy seemingly torturing poor Toto; not even bad enough to be kitschy.

Then on our way out of town, we did see one amusing sight... there before our eyes was "The Nashty" (according to license plate). A customized Creamsicle colored Nash of unknown vintage. Way cool man! Sign in car said "It takes a secure person to be seen in this car."
See photos below.

Off we went on a back highway quest for our first official "Outsider Art" site. Along the way we passed through Greenburg Kansas. It was wiped clean in May 2007 by an F-5 tornado. It is the town that is rebuilding all "green" (appropriately named prior to event). Odd to see all new town in midst of old farm towns.

In Meade we visited the Dalton Museum. It was the home of the sister of the Dalton Gang brothers. A small but authentic barn and tiny house with a tunnel connecting them. The guy the worked there was wonderfully informative and cheery. Made us ponder his life; seemed stress free and a perfect fit - a role model. They have an annual festival weekend celebrating the Dalton connection and other historical events. Must be a big deal for the small town. In the museum we saw our second two-headed calf in as many days. This one far less macabre than the last ratty decomposing Stephen King version seen in Fort Sumner. See below (of course we had to include this in the photo album).

Then later we made into our main destination in Mullinville KS. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !!! Details on that tonight in Oddasee Day Two - part two.

Ta-ta...... off to Lucas Kansas and the Garden of Eden.

Love from the Two-Headed Travelers,

Rodney and Susan
