Day 107

Oddaseebees,

Many of you may have tired of this seemingly endless stream of emails and we're not sure if anyone is still watching but  just in case there are still a few of you out there.....

Not every moment on this journey is found in books or on websites that focus on weird museums, outsider art or roadside attractions. There are some very extraordinary places and people not far from just about everyone's back door. Our backdoor remains kind of far away. As many of you know, "home" has been an elusive target for R. That fact alone has brought into his life many amazing and wondrous people but only a few can honestly be called magical. So, as part of this Oddasee journey, it seemed appropriate to visit old friends Joe and Carol Givan (aka: "The Dream Masterz) and then share a taste of their world with you.

The Givan's are old friends that were made via good old "Thunderstruck" (R's gallery and store from now long ago). The connection and mutual admiration festival was on from day one. Over the years, the friendship grew as did the wonderful shared experiences. Some of you may remember when Thunderstruck sponsored one of their shows at the Lon Chaney Theater and others might recall their participation at the "Art as Magic" at the Business of Art Center. For a short time R. even served as a sort of stage manager/schlepper/prop slave/co-conspirator/etc. for the Dream Masterz. It also should be noted that many of R's art pieces reside within their lovely home - The Soul Rejuvenator, The Conjuring Eye and three sculptures from the Occult Penetralia exhibition (see below for a couple shots to jog memory).

So as we wind back toward NM, we spent a day and night with these two wizards (Hey wait, is that what you call a female wizard? Would one wizard and one sorceress be better?). As part of the fun, we got to see some new illusions and the incredible creation/stage prop/sculpture called "The Aetheric De-Fractional Particulator". This amazing "thing" is beautiful and enigmatic; kind of Givan meets Jules Verne's Captain Nemo. Let's just say the ADP is way cool and mysterious. The truth is this is far more than just a frivolous stage prop. It is a remarkable art piece worthy of display in any high quality gallery or museum. Keep in mind here, Oddaseers, what a privilege it is to see behind the scenes of the oft secretive realm of Joe's workshop or more accurately, laboratory. (see below for a sneak peek).

Joe and Carol are world famous magicians/illusionists that perform globally and call Castle Rock Colorado home. Joe has been World Champion Close-Up magician and has won numerous awards for years. Carol's credentials are equally impressive. A few years ago, they had a big show at the MGM Grand and starred on the "World Greatest Magicians" television show. Currently they have a theatre in Castle Rock that along with their shows presents other famous acts from around the world in a very intimate setting with less than 75 seats.

For more info go to their website: http://amazingshows.com/Amazing_Shows/Dream_Masterz_-_Magicians.html

We went down to the theatre to be test subjects to serve as "eyes" for an new illusion test. Joe also did a little something for Susan; affectionately called "The Voodoo Trick" (or likely titled something more amazing). She was genuinely astounded and has been somewhat obsessed with being baffled about how it was done.

Now let's talk people.......Granted, these are friends but that has nothing to do with the fact that you really SHOULD get on the mailing list and check out their show and those of the other famous acts. You will be dazed, amazed and blown away. FYI: The shows are very inexpensive/highly affordable/cheap! Note: Be sure to get reservations as most shows are sold out in advance.

Well that is tiny taste of our magical experience at the Givan's magical world.

Love and Oddracadabra,

Ooh Rodney and Ahhh Susan
