Days 93 & 94

Oddafellas & Oddagals,

No quirky museums or sites on day 91. Yes the rumors are true, even your seasoned Oddasee travelers occasionally succumb to the call of common tourism. This included a visit to the St. Louis Zoo. On Wednesday, we went to the zoo so that R. might get a few photos for possible critter paintings in the future. The weather was by local standards, "not bad." We heard numerous comments on how much "cooler it is today." Well, this was hard to believe as the people that offered these weather reports were dripping. It was so hot and humid that my sweat was sweating. Oh sweet Satan, if that was cool, our road trip had taken us much further south than we realized...... Little did we know that the equator passes through St. Louis. Got a few good shots; nothing phenomenal but who knows how they may serve as seeds for painting ideas. The heat and humidity were bruuuuuutal...drip drip.

The next day we headed out of the tropical St. Louis area. Our outsider art bio-rhythms must have been off because we came up blank three out of four times. We did find yet another monk's devotion to not only God but concrete and stone. A skilled brother named Bronislaus Luszcz created the "BLack Madonna Shrine" outside of Pacifica, Missouri. His style included thousands of crystal rocks, coral and found objects. It made us wonder where in the world he got his building/art materials. There were numerous shrines to specific saints and a covered chapel. Interesting how each of these grottos from different artists have had their very own unique style. Brother Luszcz included the statuary of local sculptor and friend Charles Bendel as part of his overall vision and project. A very busy brother Bronislaus was.

Also the photos of the day include a few shots from miscellaneous sites we saw in the "Show Me State" -- the "St. Louis Arch" and, not quite as impressive, "The World's Largest Rocking Chair" found at one of those archetypal Route 66 tourist joints.

Love and perspiration (glistening on Susan's part),

Rodney and Susan
