2010/04/29 Day Twelve

Yo from the Roadsters,

Day 12 began with a severe shift from the Cockroach Museum of Day 11. Call it an eye cleansing art heart restoring compensation but we had to go to the Kimbell Museum in Fort Worth; odd only in comparison to the sites preceding.

Next we made our way to Waxahachie to find the Webb Gallery because they have on display the toothpick art of outsider artist Venzl Zastoupil. The gallery was an oasis of cool of the hipster variety. We were lucky once again to get in as they were in reality not open but the owners Julie and Bruce were there putting together the show that opens tomorrow night. Mr. Zastoupil's work was in the window -- incredible what can be done with a bunch of toothpicks, some glue and a lot of patience. Hard to photograph but you'll see snippets below with parts of planes, windmills, ferris wheels, zeppelins and various other objects. In addition to the high quality and diverse current exhibition, there were numerous outsider pieces and curiosities like sideshow banners. Also see the throne made from pop/beer bottle tops. If ever in that part of TX.... it's a must see.

Off to Italy - not the out of driving range with a canals or the Shroud of Turin (aka: religious roadside attraction) Note:we were told it's pronounced byTexans say "It-lee". This area included the now abandoned "Starship Pegasus". Ex-roadside attraction but you can purchase this treasure for a few Klingon coins; really, it's for sale. Not coincidentally, nearby was a community of domes and the manufacture of "Monolithic Dome Company". There were many of these mostly tiny "dome-ciles" open for touring. Cool but small and strangely expensive by our assessment.

The it was to Hillsboro for the Roadside Museum -- we arrived too late. Rats! So we snooped through windows and around back. The place is all about autos, gas stations and roadside "stuff". Looks amusing from what we could see through the few accessible windows. Out back it was photography wonderland. Below there are few shots of the museum, tomorrow you'll see a few examples of Rodney's "arty" photos.

Mostly we'll let the pics speak for themselves but here are a few notes:
1. Road Museum #5 is what the "Nashty" looked like pre-restoration
2. Road Museum #6 caption "Well there's yer problem."
3. Starship #4 - This alien/non-green carded visitor thing is getting out of hand. "Rodney is from France.... (Conehead grandparents).

Love and lessons from the Institute of Silly Walks,

Rodney and Susan
