2010/05/06 Day 17

Hello Odd-fellows and Gals,

After spending three nights with Carol and Tom in Floresville it was time to once again begin our quirky crusade. There were hugs and kisses (Tom and I avoided tongues) all around. It was a wonderful and slobbery (see pics of dogs below) stay at Hotel Yingst. Our hosts are friends; tried and true for Susan, new for me. Actually I'll miss Rupert the Bulldog the most. By the end of our stay, I had learned to snort, wheeze and use phlegm in way in which he understood; we have bonded. Daisy the Boxer was jealous and offered up a nice right ear wet-willy for the road.

In what has become a common occurrence, we stopped at the end of the road and looked at the map and decided on the route of the day. Since we will be spending a few nights in the big city of Houston, we opted for aiming at a campground.

Along the way we decided to go down to the Gulf just to see the saltwater view for the first time. We chose Port Lavaka..... yikes, bad choice; few redeeming qualities. Nowhere to eat and not what one would call a tourist mecca or quaint beachside village. A brief wander and we headed north.

Outside of the town of Edna, we found Lake Texana and an adjoining campground. Yikes, good choice. Beautiful, cheap and we found an area where we were the only campers in sight. Seems the RV areas were more popular. Now keep in mind this was hardly base camp on Annapurna. There were clean restrooms and even showers. We enjoyed the peace and greenery. We had our first gator siting and were serenaded by thousands of frogs. After our afternoon hike, we slept well. No computer or phone access.... poifect!

Nothing on the Oddasee must see list for the day but a good one for rest and rejuvenation.
Ahhhhhh - ribet - tweet tweet.

Love and truck topper slumber,

Rodney and Susan
