2010/05/20 Day 32

Oddellas,

Okay we are now in Florida. Safe to say that thus far, there has been little to rival the sights and people from last week. This is one giant tourist trap. It is very silly and calling much of what we have seen "tacky" would be an insult to tacky things.

Rather than bore you with details, here's a list and we'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

1. T.T. Wentworth Museum - Pensacola, FL: This museum was actually quite nice and comprised of various historical exhibits and rooms filled with items from Mr. Wentworth's cabinets of curiosity. There were many bad mannequins and the poor Native Americans all had very bad hair/wigs to go with their inaccurate long fingernails. There was one of the World's Biggest Man's shoes - Robert Wadlow and of course the petrified cat was a highlight.

2. Very Large Rollerskate - outside of skating rink

3. Shark Museum and Souvenir City/state/country/friggin' planet - somewhere along the coast:  The largest retail store full-o-crap we have ever seen in our lives. This place was huge and the stuff was unfathomably cheesy. I should have taken some shots of the interior of this retail hell but alas, I was shaking in horror far too much to hold the camera still. This place couldn't even pull off kitschy. Yikes! Note: Since then we have seen numerous competitors within this curious (not in a good way) retail niche. Ugh!!!

4. Goofy Golf #1 - Now we're talking. This throwback in time was way silly cool. It really seems to have survived the condo/resort/hotel/strips nightmare that lines the coast. Good use of concrete - not sure how the realistic pirate got in the mix.

Well that sums it up so far for Florida (Panama City). Not sure how much of this high class culture we can handle. So far it's funny -- except for the dumpy piece of motel Hades we stayed in last night; not funny.

Love and concrete for miles,

Rodney and Susan
