2010/05/01 Day 15

Salutations Oddasee Watchers,

Today had some twists and turns somewhat atypical for Oddasee. Susan went off with her friend Carol to visit locales up north with the goal of making it to Kerrville to shop at a well known quilter land of lust; material was purchased.

This left R. to his own devices and curiosities. Upon recommendation I also headed north back to San Antonio to explore Mission Road. There is a series of old missions that have National Park status. Guess you can't justify calling them "odd" but they certainly are out of the ordinary. It was a history lesson and another photo-o-thon; these places are beautiful and to be honest, I would love to live in any one of them. The photos you see below are a tip of the proverbial iceberg - smoke was coming off my little Minolta and I shot close to 200 photos. The architecture and exterior surfaces were glorious. The inner rooms were absolutely magical and the sculpture in that light was truly chilling in a wonderfully goose-bumy way. I was in awe and an added bonus was blissfully alone throughout the afternoon of exploration. It would have been easy to spend the entire at Mission San Jose alone; I was so rapt with the first three, I didn't make to two others.

The three I did visit were;
1. Mission Espada
2. Mission San Juan
3. Mission San Jose

Along the side of the road I also came upon some outdoor art that forced a u-turn and compelled me to wander around a verdant meadow embellished with art made from the very material in which I waded, hay. The work is by Tom Otterness as part of project sponsored by Alturas Foundation. That is all I know.

So, while this was not filled with cockroaches, toilet seats or bowling balls, it was a still an unexpected visual wonder. However, there will be another installment emailed tomorrow that falls right in there with touring a salt mine with the little people and sharing a historical museum with Buddhist monks........ circumstance and visions fell upon me once again. Susan did not get to personally experience this moment among the monuments but agrees that a the Angel of the Surrealism continues to bless Oddasee with memorable and wondrous sights.

Love and Reliquaries,

Rodney and Susan
